Caring for today’s victims - preventing tomorrow’s abuse

Family CARES Kids' Advocacy Place

HISTORY

Hill Country CARES (formerly Hill Country Crisis Council) originally operated as a volunteer organization with a 24-hour crisis hotline and our clients were transported to the nearest shelter in Marble Falls, Texas.  On April 13, 1984, HCC was incorporated as a non- profit 501(c) service provider for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  In 1986 a Director was hired, a Board of Directors was enlisted, and they set about securing government contracts for operating funds and found two facilities that were eventually purchased.  The current two-story shelter, which opened its doors in June of 1987, has six bedrooms which can house up to twenty plus victims in crisis, allowing them to reside in a family type atmosphere.

In 2009, Kids' Advocacy Place (KAP) merged with Hill Country CARES expanding our community outreach.   KAP is a child friendly facility that coordinates the criminal investigations, crisis interventions, and referrals to treatment in child abuse cases.  We provide services to abused and neglected children and their non-offending family members in Kerr, Kendall, Gillespie, Kimble, Bandera and, in some cases, even the surrounding counties.
